Is rhinoplasty painful?

Surprisingly, rhinoplasty is a painless surgery. Most patients stop taking painkillers 2 or 3 days after surgery. New techniques, such as ultrasonic surgery, strongly reduce postoperative pain and inflamation.

How long after rhinoplasty can I return to my normal life?

Approximately 2 weeks after a rhinoplasty you will be able to restart your normal life, both social and work. You will be able to do moderate physical exercise after two weeks and intense physical exercise after 4 weeks.

Can I sunbathe after rhinoplasty?

Direct sun exposure is not recommended for four weeks after surgery. You may go to the beach with a hat and sun protection

How long does it take to see the final result of a rhinoplasty?

In a primary rhinoplasty, the final result is seen approximately one year after the surgery, but after 2 months you can see more or less how the nose has turned out. In a revision rhinoplasty, if you have had previous surgery, the time that must pass to see the final result is longer, varying according to the type of surgery performed and also according to your skin type, but it will surely take 2 or 3 years to see the final result.

If my rhinoplasty requires rib cartilage, will removing the costal cartilage hurt, will my chest be deformed, or will there be a noticeable scar?

Most patients who have costal cartilage removed do not experience a more painful recovery period than those who do not. The scar is hidden in the inframammary fold, therefore in a few months it will be inconspicuous. No type of chest deformity occurs.

Will my nasal breathing improve after rhinoplasty?

As a rule, if you breathe well before the procedure, you will continue breathing well after rhinoplasty. If you breathe poorly before rhinoplasty, after the intervention you will breathe significantly better.

Is general anesthesia necessary for rhinoplasty?

As a norm, it is performed under general anesthesia due to its duration since it is a 3–5-hour surgery and performing it under local anesthesia or local anesthesia plus sedation implies a greater risk of anesthetic complications and greater patient discomfort.

Can I do rhinoplasty along with other facial aesthetic procedures?

Yes of course. In fact, rhinoplasty is often done in combination with other procedures, such as otoplasty, mentoplasty or blepharoplasty.

How long after a rhinoplasty whose result has not been satisfactory should it take before I have surgery again?

As a rule, a nose should not be re-operated until 12 months have passed since surgery.

If I have had rhinomodelation, can I have rhinoplasty?

Yes of course. It is only very likely that 2 weeks before rhinoplasty it will be necessary to remove the filling material with hyaluronidase or with some kind of treatment.

OTOPLASTY

Is it painful?

Otoplasty is not particularly painful. Postoperative pain is mild; you may notice some transient discomfort for few weeks when resting your ear on the pillow at night.

After otoplasty, how long should I wear the headbands?

You must wear molds covering your auricles for 1 week. After removing the molds, a headband at night is advised for 3 additional weeks.

How long after an otoplasty should it take until I can resume my sports activities?

You will be able to exercise after 2 weeks; intense physical exercise may resume after 4 weeks.

Is general anesthesia necessary to perform otoplasty?

No, in adults it is performed under local anesthesia plus sedation, and it can even be done in selected cases exclusively under local anesthesia.

How long after otoplasty can I get an ear piercing?

After otoplasty, the auricular cartilage remains inflamed for months. Piercing of the pinna is seriously discouraged due to the high risk of infection.

BLEPHAROPLASTY

Is the postoperative period painful after blepharoplasty?

The postoperative period is not particularly painful. Pain is usually controlled with mild analgesics.

Can I have blepharoplasty under local anesthesia?

Upper lid blepharoplasty can perfectly be performed under local anesthesia without the need for sedation. Lower lid blepharoplasty in most cases is done under local anesthesia plus sedation performed by an anesthetist.

How long do bruises last after blepharoplasty?

They last between 7-10 days. During this time sun exposure and straining shall be avoided.

How long can I see the result after a blepharoplasty?

After upper lid blepharoplasty, the eyelids remain swollen for approximately 4 weeks; although after 2 weeks swelling is minimum. In lower lid blepharoplasty, depending on the type of technique, the final result is seen 4-8 weeks after surgery.

Is it adequate to combine upper lid blepharoplasty with any eyebrow lift procedure?

In most cases it is convenient to concomitantly lift the tail of the brow. Tail of the brow lift like upper lid blepharoplasty can be done under local anesthesia.

Can I have surgery on my upper and lower eyelids at the same time?

Yes of course, both procedures are usually combined.

MENTOPLASTY

Why is mentoplasty recommended in some cases of rhinoplasty?

In the profile view of the face, the structures that stand out are the nose and the chin. Quite often the patient has a small chin which prevents the surgeon from achieving an optimal rhinoplasty result, therefore we recommend in those cases placing a chin implant or even performing chin advancement.

How do I know if I need a chin prosthesis or chin advancement in rhinoplasty?

During the consultation we will perform a simulation of your surgical result and in the simulation of the profile photo we will discuss whether or not it would be advisable to perform some type of procedure on the chin. We will only propose it if you also consider it appropriate.

Is chin prosthesis painful?

No. You may feel some mild discomfort at the chin for a few days.

Is it complicated to place a chin prosthesis?

It is a very simple technique. It is done before rhinoplasty and takes approximately 30 minutes.

Do chin prostheses need to be changed over time?

No, chin prostheses do not need to be replaced. Once in place, they remain there for life and do not cause any type of problem in the human body.

LIFTING AND MINILIFTING

Is facelift or mini facelift surgery painful?

They are procedures that are not painful the patient notices some tension in the facial skin for 2 or 3 weeks while healing is taking place.

How long is social leave necessary after facelift?

Around 2 weeks of social leave are necessary. We also recommend avoiding exercise during this period.

Can the lifting or mini-lifting result be obtained through non-surgical procedures?

Although there are currently non-surgical procedures to treat facial aging that are highly satisfactory, there are none whose results come even close to the results of a facelift or minilift.

Can a facelift or minilift be done under local anesthesia?

In some cases a minilift can be done under local anesthesia plus sedation. The facelift is a 4 to 5 hour surgery and it is advisable to do all these cases under general anesthesia regarding patient’s surgical safety. It is also recommended that the patient stays overnight in the clinic.
